Passing on a message
Dear fellow students, I am doing a report for my Intercultural Communication graduate class and my topic includes interviewing student-age (19-35) individuals (at least 2 male and 2 female) from Africa who have lived here between two months and two years. It would be a short interview with questions relating to your home culture and how you perceive African American culture here in the U.S. I'd like to conduct the interviews this week or next. The interview would only take 20 minutes or so and I'd be happy to come to you or buy a cup of coffee or tea at a local coffee shop for taking the time to chat with me. I look forward to hearing from you soon! My phone number is 701-388-7996 or you can email me at lars4110@umn.edu Thanks for your help! Warm Regards,
Christina

FRANK THEATHRE Presents ECLIPSED

Sept 17th- Oct 10th

3156 23rd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55407

For more information on times visit www.franktheatre.org

“ECLIPSED centers on the lives of five women who are thrown together by the recent civil war in Liberia. Salvaged as chattel from wartime looting, these “wives” of the commanding officer form a hardscrabble sisterhood and develop their own hierarchy as they confront questions of survival in their compound. The arrival of a new girl who has learned to read, and the return of a former “wife” who can kill, quickly transforms their possibilities. Surprisingly vivacious and often funnier than you would expect, ECLIPSED raises thought-provoking questions about power and resistance, solidarity and complicity, as the women hold out for the hope of a brighter destiny.”

Friendship Invitation and Help for African/African Descent Students/Scholars and Families
"I hope you are enjoying the end of the summer and all is well with you. If you
have just come to the U.S.A, or to Minnesota, I can imagine it has been quite
an adjustment as you begin the challenge of a new academic and social
environment and miss seeing family and friends.

I work in partnership with several Christian based organizations and volunteers
that help international students, scholars and families (regardless of their
religious beliefs) feel welcomed here in the U.S.A. and assist them in settling
in at colleges and universities in the Twin Cities. I am particularly
interested in seeing that African/African Descent students, scholars, spouses,
and their children receive the help they need, are well oriented and informed
about opportunities available to them on the campus and in the community and
know where they can feel comfortable seeking practical and confidential help
and encouragement when needed.

Some of the areas we provide services in or might be able to help you include:

finding resources (sorry, not money, but food you like, winter clothes,
furniture, transportation, etc)

learning to navigate the system at the U, in Minnesota and in the U.S.A.

learning about American life, education, culture and customs.

meeting new American and African/African Descent friends and families at the U
and in the Twin Cities.

Finding activities for your child(ren) and/or spouse and discussing concerns
about their adjustment here.
